Does reinforcing fishing knots with superglue make them stronger?

Why go to that trouble.Just make sure the line is fresh and knots are done correctly.

Also, just go to Http://www.animatedknots.com and figure out how to tie one that won’t come undone. The more bulk that is on your line/knot, the less likely you are to catch something as fish often become "aware" of the line/knot.

Actually the chemicals in superglue may degrade monofilament, thereby weakening it.

If you use an appropriate knot and properly adjust your reel’s drag you wont have any problems with the strength of any line.

ive hear ed carp/specimen anglers put a drop of rig glue on the knots when using braided line to stop them coming undone but if there tied properly they should be ok any way.

There are other reasons for doing this. For instance, fly fishermen sometimes use super glue (or a variant of it) to create a smoother junction where the flyline and leader are knotted together.

Some materials are prone to unraveling, and fishermen use superglue to prevent that.

But there is no way the superglue will make the knot any stronger than it is. And, in fact, some forumulas can have a negative effect on modern lines, weakening them.

Carp anglers occasionally use it to prevent knotless knots from uncoming. I use knotless knots all the time, but never had any problems without using glue either. I don’t like the idea of the smell of the glue on the hook. Most fish are really sensitive to unnatural smells. Happy Fishing!

Knots that I’ve used throughout the years are the Palomar and or Clinch (Improved) and have NEVER had a’ problem. Someone mentioned spittin’ on the knot ~ Ha’ best Super Glue round’ ~ do it myself… Also, devyn gave you a’ GREAT link/site for not only fishin’ knots but other ones as well. Note: Have heard of others usin’ Super Glue but in my eyes after a’ certain amount of time the knot will become brittle because of the elements used in SG. This only be my personal assumption…

The super glue isnt for reinforcing, its to maintain the knot. Many of the super braids are slippery, and can come undone, and the glue stops this. Super glue is used because it dries faster.
