Here’s an easy Paternoster rig, yes there are quite a few ways to tie the Paternoster rig, but when we are out fishing with a heap of customers, this one is about the quickest and fastest method. We use 100lb mono line as we do go through a lot of leader and this works fine. Was using 80lb but losing some really big fish. 100lb doesn’t seem to affect the bites, but you can adept to your local area. Although lighter line, sinkers etc does help with shy fish. Make sure you go through three times whem doing your loops for hooks when tying the Paternoster rig, and up to you, can do for one or two hooks. If getting into big fish, the only problem with double hookups is we were losing the bottom hookand fish with the fish fighting each other and breaking the line Unfortunately, That’s Fishing, but extra tuff when you’re talking 10kg Red Emperor or Huge Nannygai. See how you end up with the Sinker on the bottome and two hooks. Excellant for reef fishing or deep sea fishing in deep water. Also allows a couple of baits to be presented. Another bonus of this rig is you can adjust your sinkers weight and hook sizes if need be or conditions change. Make sure you’re loops aren’t too big to avoid tangles and bad twisting of the line, and the Paternoster loops need to be big enough to go over your hooks. Give it a go next time you go fishing.

Hi JT,
Its a good fishing knot, make sure you go through three times, lot stronger than two times. 100lb is definately better and doesn’t seem to make any difference in our catch rates. Check out advanced twisted paternoster video, well worth considering, bit more mucking about, Thanks for the comments, Cheers Greg

Hey greg
Mate great vid i use the same way for my daughter now she was getting a few snags with my rigs while drifting so have gone with the same method you use . The only difference i use is heat shrink in red colour over the eye of the hoojk to help with abrasion found this to be a great way for rigs lasting longer. And spot on with the comment about the 100 lb for 80 lb i went the way of 80 lb and seemed to lose a fair more decent fish with abrasion . Thanks mate

Hi, Definately the easiest way I’ve come across to do the Paternoster rig, and can run with 1,2 or 3 hooks. Will post a more advanced twisted paternoster rig, which is well worth a look. But the above video and rig is fine for most situations,
Cheers Greg

Hi Benno,
Quickest and easiest way I’ve found to do the Paternoster rig, depending on the size of your fish, we’ve found 100lb to be best, we were losing some monster reds and Nannygai on 80lb line. Thanks for the comment,
Cheers Greg
