It depends what I am fishing for. I might use a loop knot if I’m going for summer flounder, and I would use slip knot if I’m fishing for striped bass.

If the lines are the same diameter, use a blood knot. For lines with 2 different diameters, use a double surgeon’s knot. You can use the surgeon’s knot with same diameter lines but the blood knot is a better knot.

the best knot to use to join two lines together is the uni-to-uni knot(line size doesn’t matter). this knot has a 95% strenght rating. i have tried many knots to do this and the uni to uni is the best so far. the double surgeons knot ends up to big, the blood knot only has a strenght rating of 65%, and the square wont work(it slips), and the slip knot only works when it is tightening on a fixed surface, not line.
